What if “broken” is only the beginning?

During this 13th edition of Maker Days Eindhoven, we invite you to step into our living repair workshop. Discover how breakage can become a starting point for ingenuity, imagination, and a new relationship with everyday objects.

You can also get our kintsugi kits, developed for our Woensel West project in early 2026.

What is the workshop about?

As with our previous workshops, we originate with ceramic repair techniques. We look beyond restoring an object to its original state: what else can this object be? Through unexpected materials and and playful interventions, we explore what repair can mean. We bring the tools, you bring the creativity.

And of course, previous experience is not needed!
Come by to think through your hands with us ☺︎

Visit us on 12 and 13 September 2026 at Maker Days Eindhoven, at the Klokgebouw in Strijp-S.

What if “broken” is only the first act to design?

BEHIND THE UNBROKEN
REPAIR EXPERIENCE

During DDW25, we hosted an experimental “repair” workshop at Matchbox.

Over the course of two hours, participants collectively reflected on the evaluation of repair labor and on how repair culture might be de-marginalized in a consumerist society. Rather than practicing exquisite or highly technical repair methods, we experimented with creative repair tools developed by Daniela on broken ceramics, challenging conventional definitions of repair.

Through role-play, hands-on material exploration, and discussion, the workshop invited a re-examination of repair practices within a contemporary context.

In a world after abundance, design is a form of repair.

ABOUT

Ziyi and Daniela work together at the intersection of design, research, and social engagement. Meeting during their Social Design studies at Design Academy Eindhoven, they discovered a shared interest in grassroots and non-Western approaches to design.

Ziyi’s¹ practice centers on observation, writing, and reflection, engaging communities to uncover overlooked narratives. Daniela² explores craft through its socioeconomic and cultural dimensions, tracing the ways material knowledge shapes livelihoods and resilience.

Together, they build projects that challenge dominant design narratives, drawing on local knowledge systems, repair cultures, and situated practices to imagine alternative futures for making and living.
